1) Venture capital (VC) investment in clean-tech is at it’s lowest since 2011. Clean-tech startups are having less of a reliance on VC funding: firms are using different funding strategies such as corporate, private equity and family office investment, venture debt, project finance, and general bootstrapping strategies. As the sector is developing startups are becoming more creative with funding strategies.

1) Record year for green buildings: Since 2000, the number of LEED-certified green buildings worldwide has seen an impressive compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 68.9 percent.

2) 2014 looks to be a record year for solar deployment: the year 2013 also marked a significant tipping point in the history of clean energy: at Clean Edge (Do yourself a favour and check out their site) they have been tracking global markets in 2000 and now for the first time, the world installed more new solar photovoltaic generating capacity, 36.5 gigawatts, than wind power (35.5 GW).

1) Share of GDP invested top 5 countries: Uruguay lead the world in 2013 for investing the greatest amount in renewable power and fuel as a share of its GDP (2012), followed by Mauritius, Costa Rica, South Africa and Nicaragua.

2) Investment activity in 2013: global new investment in renewable power and fuels was at least $US49.4 billion in 2013, down from its record level in 2011.

3) For the first time, more solar PV than wind power capacity was added worldwide in 2013; and that new solar PV installations increased by more than 27%, despite a decline in investment of nearly 22% relative to 2012.
